Let us not forget:
BOOZE AND PARTYIN
Dive bars:
Jasper O'Farrells (6957 Main St., downtown, on the south side of the street across from Screamin' Mimis) According to the Sebastopol police chief this establishment is responsible for the majority of the calls for service they get. When Jasper's owner proposed buying the larger pub just to the south (now the Sebastopol Brewing Co.), the police chief put up the kind of fight you'd expect from Greenpeace protecting the last humpbacked whale. I've been in there once for lunch and had their rather nice fish and chips and a draft Sierra Nevada and had a fairly quiet time (ignoring the all-day drinkers falling off their stools). They have loud music on weekends. Don't worry if the big plate glass window out front is broken. They'll still be open.
Greenhouse Tavern (116 South Main St., downtown just south of the big intersection): According to the a saleswoman/receptionist at the newspaper where I used to work (just around the corner), this is the favorite daytime hang-out of many area tweakers. I have never been inside. The guys who stand outside and smoke all day scare me. Whatever you do, don't go to the restaurant next door (Appletrees). It sucks.
Old Main St. Saloon (153 North Main St., north of the big intersection, just south of Whole Foods): Lots of draft beer and old men drinking all day. According to local legend, this pub is the one the participants in the fight that gave Sebastopol its name came to drink afterward.
Shiny bars:
The Sebastopol Brewing Co. (268 Petaluma Ave., if you're walking it's a block down Petaluma Ave. from the intersection that leads you to Whole Foods. If you're driving go down Main St. and turn left into the big parking lot a block down. Drive east and you'll get to their parking lot). For many years this pub was the Powerhouse (so called because it used to hold the powerhouse for the electric Petaluma-Sebastopol railroad). Then it was the Stone Elephant (the owners found a fossil mammoth on their property up in Lake County and brought it to display here). Now it's called Sebastopol Brewing Co. and still has good eats and a microbrewery. Don't miss their rootbeer.
Starlight Wine Bar (6761 Sebastopol Ave. - in Gravenstein Station): This bar will be very conveniant to those of you staying in the Sebastopol Inn. The one time I went it was in its previous incarnation, but I understand it still serves small plates of nifty California food and pours local wine. It had very reasonable prices when I went, which may be why it went out of business.
I'm only including places within walking distance for the obvious reason. If you want to know about places further out and promise to have a designated driver, I'll tell you about Red's Recovery Room, the Washhoe House and Russian River Brewing Co. And there are lots of places to buy booze so you can drink in the privacy of your tent, RV or hotel room.

Re: More help that you can ever want
Thu, January 31, 2008 - 7:21 PMThe Sebastopol Brewing Co. closed a few months ago and was bought by the folks who run Gordon Biersch (sp?) who are renovating it now ... it will reopen as the "HopMonk Tavern" prior to TribalFest (in March, I think) and should be a cool haunt, with patio dining, good beer, etc. I'll share more details (and a review) closer to TF.
From the heart of Sebastopol,

Re: More help that you can ever want
Fri, February 1, 2008 - 9:00 AMIn and among all of the options we have here, the burning question on everyone's minds-
what goes on directly after the shows this year?
Also, dont forget, the haunted house/castle. this has been a desired road trip for me every year but we tend not to get to it. -

The answer to that lies here: cosmikcasbah.eventbrite.com
Walk over to Odd Fellows, right across the street from the whole foods, and that is where the party will continue with Frederique, Beats Antique, Maduro, Me (amar), and lots more late night action. Click the link above for the full lineups and tix. Fri. night it starts right after TF, Sat after the fire show. -

Sat, April 12, 2008 - 4:46 PMLast I heard the Brewing company will be reopening soon. (by the new owners - gordon biersch). I'm sure it'll still be great but not the lil independent brewery it used to be. I Loved their food and beer.

Re: More help that you can ever want
Fri, February 8, 2008 - 8:41 AMOh my geez!! Thank you for the great info!!!!!!!!!!!
...since you seem to have a firm grasp on the area, could you suggest a nice place to camp relatively nearby?? The campground in Sebastopol is no longer taking tenters, and I have NO idea where to start looking for other arrangements.
Thank you again for all the great info!

Re: More help that you can ever want
Fri, February 8, 2008 - 8:36 PMI can't think of any camping places super close to downtown Sebastopol (hopefully others will chime-in), but there are a few places on the Russian River that are about 30 minutes away which are nice: Casini Ranch is one (between Monte Rio & Duncan's Mills); Pomo Canyon and WIllow Creek campgrounds are others (toward Jenner). Not super convenient, but beautiful places with beautiful drives into Sebastopol.
I believe that the campground in downtown Sebastopol has been purchased by the town and will be changed into some type of park (although I don't know the schedule on that). -

Re: More help that you can ever want
Thu, May 8, 2008 - 12:21 AMI was just in town today flyering for Cosmik Casbah and saw that my favorite little tea house - Infusions - has a really nice food menu. Some nice vegan stuff too. I hesitate to say much about this place because I Love the quaintness of it and plan to bring my laptop over there for some quiet work time during the week - so i'd hate for it to suddenly be loaded with people (how selfish of me :), but there are other cool spots in the center by whole foods to get breakfast, lunch, dinner or mid-day snacks.
The brewery has re-opened. It's nice but doesn not have the same charm as the original. Had a decent english ale there this afternoon. I think the food menu is a bit too high. They have a tiny selection of sides that are priced reasonably. Oh well. They do have a nice big ale selection if you are into ales. I'll probably be over there one of the afternoons next week to try their cider. But then, there is a cider house around town too. I think Maduro mentioned something about that last year.
