Re: HIGHLITES of this weekend!
Mon, May 18, 2009 - 10:13 PMWell one of my highlites was - YOU SOOZ!!
thanks to you, Rachael and Gina for the room. I laughed so hard my stomach is still sore. New Nicknames anyone?
The after party Saturday nite was DA BOMB!!!!!!!!! My girlcrush on Zafira was renewed and Queen Harish, there are no words to describe the power of a true performer. Being privy to a improv bollywood production was such a treat!!
Hanging at the FCBD booth - Suzanne, Shannon and of course Mama Carolena!!!!!!!!!! MUAH!!!!!!!!!!!
ATS - the dance that started this all
Sandi, Kristine, Bonnie and all of the Salome's Suitcase gals.
Flying instead of driving. The trip was so short it didn't even feel like I went all the way to SF.
and Sushi with a side of Xanadu!!!!!!! the perfect ending to a perfect weekend
I'm sure there were many many more. I'm blissed out by all the love I received this weekend! I'm refreshed and ready to head back to the "real" world tomorrow.

Re: HIGHLITES of this weekend!
Tue, May 19, 2009 - 7:12 PMWow, I have so many highlights. My workshops with Carolena were awesome! Especially the Master Class, it was so fun to meet other ATS sisters and dance with dancers I did not know. Thanks to Tribaltique and Kajira for sharing those moments with me!
Performances were so inspiring! There are so many wonderful performances that blew me away. FatChance, of course, were as graceful and lovely as ever and inspires me so much! Sarashukra from Japan were delightful to watch too. I have to say that one of may favorite things about TF is that I get to meet and watch dancers from other countries that I may not have met otherwise. It really brings our global community together.
UNMATA rocked it so hard too. I loved Colleena, Ginger Blue (so glad to hear that Martina will be teaching next year! She's amazing!), Asharah moved me, and did I mention how yummy I thought Deshret was? Danse du Ventre sassy fun too! Oh, so many great performances! I was volunteering at the door on Saturday evening so I did miss quite a few performances. But what I saw was amazing.
A shopping highlight for me was buying some more HiBeam Bindis from Sandi! I love them so much.
And I think my most favoritist part of the week for me was sharing the experience of performing and teaching with my sisters of TABU. It's always so wonderful to have people you love around you to share in the special moments of your life. Sharing our Robot Zombie Funk with such an enthusiatic class was so fun! And meeting some of my tribe and facebook friends, as well as spending time with my other dance friends who live far away was priceless. -

Re: HIGHLITES of this weekend!
Wed, May 20, 2009 - 10:58 AMOne highlight for me was when Kajira was teaching her zills class and said, almost off-hand, that 8/4 means that the pattern goes through two measures before repeating, clarifying a mystery that has been bothering me for over a decade, through zill/rhythm classes taken from Palika, John Compton, Ma*Shuqa Murjan, and more...
Also in the zills class, when another student offered the mnemonic for 3-3-7 pattern as "Gotta dance, gotta dance, got a chicken in my pants"!

Re: HIGHLITES of this weekend!
Wed, May 20, 2009 - 9:57 PMSo many!!! The after-party was off the hook!!! I can't believe I got to perform in that show! I had such a good spot to see all the performers that night - everyone was SO AWESOME!!! Plus, it made it my second time to see Zafira Dance Company over the weekend! That was a real pleasure. I saw so many amazing performances... Plus the fabulous Sooz to MC us (and I quite enjoyed seeing Mirabelle over the wekeend!). Queen Harish turning the place into a Bollywood music was so cool!
I saw Le Serpent Rouge on Thursday and the Indigo on Sunday. I also saw some of the Friday night show of Zafira and Mezmer, TABU, ROMKA', Rachel Brice, Marjhani (with me running in front of the stage with a sword to grab a front row seat), Princess Farhana, Room for Cream (they were really great!!), Asharah... I can't even pick. The whole night was so great! Oh yeah, and I performed Friday night. My first performance at Tribal Fest, yay!!!
I saw as much of the Electric Vardo set Sunday as I could and really enjoyed it!! Chuck ROCKED the TF stage!!! :D
The workshops I took were great! I really loved going from "WTF do you want us to do?" to dancing Bollywood/Bhangra with Sam Riggs with the disco ball going (yeah!!).
Seeing a lot of friends and making new ones was a definite highlight as well for me. :) -

Re: HIGHLITES of this weekend!
Thu, May 21, 2009 - 3:21 AMUmm, Sophie the chihuahua's bindi is STILL stuck on her cute little head. It's like a miracle or the 4th coming or something. Srsly, the damn thing is still on there a week later.
As far as dance goes I didn't get to see too much cuz I was stuck at my booth but Urban Tribal from New York blew me away.
Met lots of amazing dancers and fun peeps. Got a suntan...which at the time was not a highlite (it was sooo hot) but in retrospect....not so bad.
Sold lots of amazing clothes to lots of amazing people. FYI (www.shop.SandGClothing.com)
and generally had a blast.
Can't wait for the next one!
