The Bellydance Body: Full weekend Intensive!
Biomechanics, Therapeutics, & Embodiment for Dancers—from both Yogic and Pilates perspectives.
With Aubre Hill & Deb Rubin.

Drawing from the wisdom body traditions of Pilates, & Yoga, as well as extensive professional and personal experiences in the fields of Holistic Health, Dancer Rehabilitation, and Bellydance, Deb & Aubre combine forces to bring you this jam-packed weekend including:

- Experiential anatomy
~ Discussion, practice,hands-on learning
- Team teaching with Aubre & Deb, therefore dual perspectives on material.
~Skills, practices, and embodied awareness to take your dancing to the next level
~Injury prevention and rehabilitation of common bellydance injuries.
~one-on-one attention.
~All material directly applied to bellydance

This workshop weekend will assist you in radically shifting bellydance posture and technique, and freeing up new movement pathways to support healthy, embodied dancers. We will discuss injury prevention and self-care; learn ways of protecting overused areas in bellydance--such as psoas, low back, and hips--, and deepen our practices to stretch, strengthen, and activate the body in preparation for bellydance. A great foundation for any level dancer, of any style bellydance. And a necessary addition for Teachers in their tool kit of how to break down and explain safe, proper technique and give one-on-one student feedback and attention to detail.

Come develop a more connected conversation with your own body. Increase body awareness, core stabilization, and presence in movement, taking your dance to the next level, from amateur to artist.
All material will be directly applied to bellydance movement.

Pls. bring a yoga mat, a journal for note taking, and water bottle.
We invite you to also bring your specific questions, ailments, or injury concerns to be addressed.

Saturday:
1-2: Pilates For Dancers Warm-up (aubre)
2-4: The spine! The biomechanics of spinal stabilization, articulation, and extension/backbending, from both Yogic and Pilates perspectives. (team teaching, Aubre & Deb.)
4-6pm: Lower Quadrant: The Root of it All (Back, hips, pelvis, sacrun, & Legs) (Aubre)

Sunday:
1-2: Core Integrated Yoga for Bellydancers Warm up (Deb)
2-4: Upper Quadrant: The neglected area of Bellydance. (deb)
Free up the Neck/head, Shoulders, Spine, & Sidebody to create that intoxicating look and feel of ridiculously slow, slinky bellydance; allow for sharper isolations; and create more fluid, articulated movements from the head to the fingertips. Focus will be on the importance and biomechanics of the shoulder girdle, and how it relates to –well--everything you do in bellydance. This module will include lecture, experiential anatomy, and therapeutic yoga/somatic practice, with hands-on adjustments. All material will then be applied to bellydance posture, technique, and combos, with particular focus on arms, core, and ribcage.
4-5: Bellyrolls and Abs--The wisdom bodies’ secrets.
